Saudi and Russia pledge cooperation on oil market

Saudi Arabia will continue working with Russia to stabilise global oil markets, the country’s King said during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where the two leaders discussed the war in Syria and other issues in the Middle East.

“We are striving to continue positive cooperation between our countries in order to achieve stability in the world oil markets, which contributes to the growth of the world economy,” King Salman bin Abdulaziz told reporters after talks with Mr Putin, saying relations between the countries “are characterized by the coincidence of views on many regional and international problems.”

“We appreciate the warm feelings expressed in your speech about our country, it gives us pleasure to be in your friendly country to confirm our desire to strengthen and strengthen relations between our countries and peoples in various fields,” King Salman added.

The Saudi monarch, whose visit to Moscow is the first of its kind, used a press briefing to call for the preservation of the territorial integrity of both Syria and Iraq, and accused arch-rival Iran of destabilizing the region. He added:

With regard to the Syrian crisis, we are called upon to achieve its completion in accordance with the decisions of Geneva-1 and Security Council resolution 2254 – to find a political solution that would guarantee the achievement of security, stability and preservation of the unity, territorial integrity of Syria. We also emphasize the significance of preserving Iraq’s unity and territorial integrity.

We stress that security and stability of the Persian Gulf and Middle East region is a vital necessity for achieving stability and security in Yemen. This requires that Iran stop interference in the region’s internal affairs and stop its actions destabilizing the situation in this region.

Tehran is a neighbour and ally of Russia, and Moscow’s military support for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has aligned it with Iran in the country’s conflict.

Mr Putin replied: “We have just conducted negotiations in a narrow format, very detailed ones. We talked about bilateral relations, about the situation in the region. This was a very substantive conversation, a meaningful and a very trusting one.”
